INITIAL IDEA | CONCEPT

Our initial idea was to base the magazine around jobs & lifestyles that have led people to have interesting stories to tell - things that would maybe entail some kind of interaction with the public and therefore led to something shocking, funny, sad, scary, compelling, etc happening. We were all pretty happy with this idea as it was something we felt we would all be interested in reading and could have a lot of potential.

We decided each issue would focus on a different job/lifestyle, and started thinking about the different themes -

We decided on the name UNTOLD. After brainstorming and discussing with Alec, we agreed that this was the strongest and most fitting - the idea of these stories being unheard until now - and the magazine acting as the voice to tell these stories.

Joe began considering the aesthetic. We decided that we wanted the cover to be very minimal and not tell you much. We came up with the idea of having a blank cover - just with a title, but then with a small circle cut out, revealing a second cover that would tell you everything. The cut out would show a fragment of an image from the second cover, which would engage you but not explain much. Therefore it requires you to open magazine to find out more. We felt this played well on the idea of the stories inside being secretive and untold.

We all decided the magazine would focus more on a young, middle class/educated audience  - based in the city and with disposable income.

Unfortunately I had to leave the session for my COP tutorial so I missed the chance to have much more of a say in the project.

The group decided that our Kick-starter campaign would be a trailer style ad, similar to the Vice documentary trailers but a bit more light hearted - showing interesting snippets of the stories and interviews.
